STEAM Project Manager

Summary of Position

GERES is currently developing activities aiming at reducing the carbon and environmental footprint of the manufacturing sector in Cambodia with a particular focus on Sustainable Thermal Energy and Alternative bioMass (STEAM). More specifically GERES is promoting the use of alternative sustainable fuels for steam production in the garment sector and is currently working with Cambodian rice millers to supply the garment factories with rice husk-based fuels. In 2018, GERES will also conduct a feasibility study (socio-economic and technology assessment) on energy-efficiency investment projects in selected manufacturing and agribusiness sectors in Cambodia. These different work streams compose the STEAM project.

GERES is looking for a STEAM Project Manager to take the lead on the various activities related to the STEAM project, under the supervision of an International Program Director and in close collaboration with a National Technical Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the implementation, the monitoring and the evaluation of all GERES initiatives related to the STEAM project

  • Coordinate the proper implementation of activities according to work plans
  • Identify and promote solutions and technologies related to energy efficiency in steam generation and processing of agricultural residues into industrial fuels (briquettes, pellets...)
  • Lead the organization of the main events of the project (dissemination workshop, demonstration actions, study tours)
  • Manage the relationship with project’s stakeholders, including but not limited to garment factories and rice millers
  • Ensure smooth relationship and collaboration with Government Officials from relevant ministries, namely Ministry of Industry and Handicraft and Ministry of Mines and Energy
  • Participate in the identification of external experts, coordinate and follow-up their intervention on the projects
  • Develop, coordinate and evaluate technical partnerships
  • Ensure all project outputs meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Plan and monitor project budgets and contribute to financial reporting to donors
  • Draft progress reports for donors
  • Ensure smooth communication with line manager and the rest of GERES team

Participate in the development of the STEAM project

  • Participate in workshops and networking events related to the STEAM project
  • Contribute to the design of new interventions and support proposal development in relation with the STEAM project
  • Contribute to the production of lessons learnt and knowledge products

Experience Required

At least 6 years of experience in project management in at least two of the following sectors: manufacturing or agro-industrial sector, renewable energy, energy efficiency, biomass energy

Minimum Educational Level Required

Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Career Level Required

Experienced (Non-manager)

Languages Required

Fluent in written and spoken Khmer and English; Spoken Chinese or Vietnamese is a strong asset

Other Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management in at least two of the following sectors: manufacturing or agro-industrial sector, renewable energy, energy efficiency, biomass energy
  • Fluent in written and spoken Khmer and English; Spoken Chinese or Vietnamese is a strong asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Representation and networking skills, including with Government Officials
  • Willing to learn, flexible, friendly, persuasive, and creative
  • Good interpersonal skills and adaptability in different cultural, social and professional environments
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively and to show initiatives in a solution-oriented mindset
  • Ready to travel in Cambodia and in the neighbouring countries
