Training Resource Developer

Summary of Position

APLE is now seeking a qualified applicant for the position of  Training Resource Developer in Phnom Penh.

Summary Profile

Under financial support of Terre des Hommes (TdH) Netherland, APLE Cambodia, a local NGO established in 2003, dedicates to combating child sexual exploitation and strengthening social and legal mechanisms for the protection of children. APLE is currently seeking a consultant for the Training Resource Development post to lead the development of training and trainer materials and curriculum structure with specific focus on child sexual abuse and exploitation and child-centric response.

The materials will be used to support the project activities that aim to raise awareness of children and communities, and build the capacity of law enforcement in the area of child-centric procedures. The materials will also be shared with relevant stakeholders as parts of APLE commitment to continuing professional development and best practices surrounding treatment of children affected by sexual abuse.    

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Job Goal

The overall goal of this position is to develop the training and trainer materials, curriculum structure and other learning support resources for various recipients including children, families, communities and law enforcement. The development should take into account and adapt to the following areas:

  • National social and legal context/situation of Cambodia and international best practices
  • Use of appropriate terminologies and references
  • Concept of adult and child learning about such a complex phenomenon
  • Attitudes and competences to communicate in a child-centric manner
  • Psychological effects and treatment of the child who has experienced abuse
  • Decision making process: the best interest of the child
  • Modular structure, lesson plan and training program that fits the different groups of recipients
  • Guidelines for monitoring, evaluation and learning process
  • Standard presentations and learning support resources (i.e. visual aid, handout, PowerPoint presentation, video, etc.)
  • Discussions, games, exercises, case studies, role play and practical demonstrations
  • Cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, disability, child safeguarding, and children/people with special education needs

Key Tasks

The Training Resource Developer will work with the guidance of the Executive Director and alongside of the Team Leaders, taking charge of the following tasks:

  • Conduct sufficient literature review to establish the context for development
  • Carry out mapping/learning need assessments with selected target participants  
  • Consult the APLE strategic plan and program frameworks to get a clear understanding of the intended outcomes and expected deliverables
  • Develop training and trainer materials that are easily comprehensible and skill-building oriented for various groups of recipients
  • Create a curriculum/training program structure, lesson plan, learning support resources (i.e. visual aid, PowerPoint presentations, exercises, games, tests, case studies, etc.) that are consistent with the training materials   
  • Develop guidelines for monitoring, evaluation and learning process (feedback) of the training program
  • Attend a number of training of trainer activities to observe and provide feedback for content/usage improvement and/or make adjustments in the materials as required  
  • Provide orientation and training to the team on how to use the materials and implement the guidelines

Expected Deliverables

  • Frist draft of the materials developed for project team discussion and feedback
  • Second draft of the materials (revised with the feedback from the team) for management comment
  • Final draft to be presented to the team
  • Report of feedback sessions and lessons learnt from the entire development process

Master's Degree

Experienced (Non-manager)

Other Requirements

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in social work, sociology, anthropology, education, international development, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-year experience conducting relevant field research with children and/or vulnerable groups
  • Sound knowledge of child protection, law enforcement, Cambodia legal system, criminal justice process and child-centric procedures
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation
  • Knowledge of the local area of research/development of training materials (geographical) desired
  • Understanding of and strong commitment to ethical development processes, including child protection and child safeguarding
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
