Financial Controller

Summary of Position

Our client is one of the leading insurance companies in Cambodia. They are seeking a Financial Controller who will support the Cambodia CFO to build the Finance function to operate to Company standards for Cambodia. He/she will be based in Phnom Penh.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the adequacy of the control environment in the proposed operating model and processes
  • Ensure the new Finance team build a knowledge of the key Finance requirements in relation to Life Insurance which is only 3 years old in Cambodia (focus on Financial Reporting and Planning & Analysis as Finance Operations will be outsourced to Malaysia FSSC)
  • Support the building of relationship between the Cambodian Finance team and colleagues in Group Finance, Malaysia FSSC and SAP COE to ensure effective engagement following the business launch
  • Assist in the preparation of the Finance department to embrace the organization Next Generation Finance (“One Step Ahead”) and act as a partner to the business and local Exco by providing insightful and timely analysis of business results
  • Complete key tasks associated with the Finance operating model build and subsequent BAU operations as agreed with the CFO
  • Support the Cambodia Finance team through the initial “go live’ months and associated Finance monthly closes and reporting
  • Act as a positive influence on the team ensuring that Cambodia feels part of the family and approaches the business launch with confidence
  • Support the CFO and train Cambodian Finance team in Business requirements on Group Finance Reporting / Planning & Analysis and support the development of processes to deliver leveraging Group Standard Company Finance systems

Other Requirements

  • At least 7 years’ experience with insurance industry Finance requirements
  • Understanding of insurance products preferred
  • Business process design/documentation experience and track record on IT projects preferred
  • Good analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively in a complex environment
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Proficient in business process management systems such as ARIS
  • Excellent PC skills especially on MS Excel/MS PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Team player with ability to lead
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to negotiate and influence without having direct management authority
  • Have a high level of initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with and influence across functional teams while building a sense of shared business purpose
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a changing environment
  • Good organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
