Khmer Language and Culture Specialist

Summary of Position

Our client is an international school in Cambodia. They are looking for a Khmer Language and Culture Specialist who will be responsible for delivering high-quality Khmer language classes and supporting the delivery of a high-quality Khmer Language Program while working collaboratively with the Languages Team. He/she will be based in Phnom Penh.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and follow school policies and procedures
  • Teach advanced-level Khmer literature classes as per the schedule provided
  • Plan and design language learning activities that incorporate a range of instructional strategies and include the appropriate use of digital technology
  • Use student assessment and evaluation practices that accurately reflect the learner outcomes within the Khmer language program
  • Employ classroom management strategies that promote a positive, welcoming, engaging learning environment
  • Communicate with parents via Google Classroom and be available for in-person meetings and workshops
  • Collaborate with other Khmer language teachers to build personal and collective professional capacities and expertise, and to strengthen the Khmer Language Program
  • Guide and contribute to the development of the overarching Khmer Language Program, which, through a series of courses at the elementary and secondary levels, aims to ensure that students have a high level of proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Khmer, as well as an appreciation of Cambodian culture
  • Guide and contribute to the creation of a locally developed, Alberta Education-accredited advanced-level Khmer language and culture course
  • Guide and contribute to the creation of an A-Level Khmer Language and Literature course for IBDP
  • Support the students and staff in understanding and appreciating the history and culture of Cambodia
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator, Principals or Head of School

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

  • At least 3 years’ experience teaching Khmer preferred

  • Understanding of and experience teaching Khmer literature

  • Curriculum design experience important

  • Fluency in Khmer

  • Proficiency in English enabling conceptual explanations of language concepts to non-Khmer speakers and active participation in team discussions regarding curricula, etc.

  • Experience working with diverse school communities an asset
